June 2010 – Rachel Scott Music is proud to post the latest single written by Rachel. This was a project in the making for over 2 yrs. Though not many know the story of how this song came to be, it has now finally come to completion. We are excited to partner with Rachel’s Challenge.
The song idea really came into being from an invite from Darrell Scott, the father of Rachel Joy Scott. His initial email to us, “Hi Greg, my name is Darrell Scott and I just happened to run across your wife’s vocals while looking at the Compassion International site. My daughter, Rachel Joy Scott, was the first student killed in the 1999 Columbine High School massacre. We have a nonprofit organization called Rachel’s Challenge that has become the largest school assembly program in America and Bermuda. This year we spoke to over 1.3 million students and teachers. You can check out our website at www.rachelschallenge.com I would just like to explore an idea I had with you and your wife, if after checking out our website, you should have an interest. You could call me at…, or email me back at this address. Thanks, Darrell Scott” emailed 12/15/08
From that email, and flying out to the Denver area to see one of the Assemblies, visiting the Columbine Memorial, reading their books, journals, praying and waiting, Rachel wrote an incredible song that we believe holds to the values of what Rachel Joy Scott was all about. Rachel was honored to be asked to partner with them in this way. We are excited to see her song be used to impact the lives of thousands of kids (and adults) all over the world. Oh and one more interesting fact… the writers of this song are recording artist Rachel Scott, and Rachel Joy Scott. Some of the lyrical phrases in the song are taken directly from Rachel Joy Scott’s journals. Enjoy.
